SAPTCO Launches Public Bus Transportation Project
in Al-Ahsa
Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Talal bin Badr, Governor of Al-Ahsa, the CEO of SAPTCO, Eng.Khalid Alhogail, signed a contract for the operation of the public bus transportation project with the Al-Ahsa Municipality. The project aims to operate public transportation in the Al-Ahsa region for a duration of five years, with a contract value of 93 million Saudi Riyals.
The project includes 7 routes extending over 222 kilometers, with 132 bus stops. This system will be supported by 41 buses operated by 123 Saudi drivers, with an operating duration of up to 18 hours daily.
The signing ceremony was attended by His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, and Acting Chairman of the Public Transport Authority, Dr. Rami bin Muhammad Al-Rumaih, and the Secretary of the Al-Ahsa Municipality, Eng. Essam Al-Mulla.
In his speech, Prince Saud bin Talal emphasized the significant support that the transport sector receives from the wise leadership of the Kingdom, highlighting the importance of improving the quality of life in the region by providing an efficient and sustainable public transport system, with a focus on enhancing road safety and reducing traffic congestion.
For his part, Dr. Al-Rumaih noted that the project benefits from lower operating costs and high flexibility in network adjustments, without the need for costly infrastructure. He also pointed out the importance of the project in facilitating the movement of beneficiaries within Al-Ahsa and providing multiple transportation options for the residents of the area, in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
Dr. Al-Rumaih confirmed that the project will contribute to improving safety and security, as well as the quality of life in the region, while also reducing carbon emissions and environmental pollution. Furthermore, the project will enhance the localization of job opportunities in the transport sector, allowing the residents of Al-Ahsa to participate in the development of the transport industry and improving services according to the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
